Gillan Gets Gold.
I am of course talking about Karen Gillan. The self proclaimed 'ginger flailing enthusiast' (her words, check her Twitter) has recently won gold at the Scottish Fashion Awards, being named Scottish Fashion Icon of the Year. And in my opinion, rightfully so.
So of course in favour of revising for my exam, I decided to spend hours selecting my favourite Gillan guises (believe me, narrowing it down was hard) and finished feeling ridiculously under-revised and suffering from a generous amount of face and figure envy. Again, no change there.
Top of my list is the photo shoot at Cannes (all pictures are from here - a golden gallery to gush over Gillan.)
1. Calm in Cannes
For me, the white dress is pure instead of plain and is perfect for her skin tone. It gives an almost ethereal quality and the layering is totally on trend too. The sandals I am less keen on, but that's more to do with my own neon-nervousness - a UV party in a student's union can do that to you.
2. NYC - Not Your Colour?
More like definitely your colour. This my second favourite look mostly because of the material. I know for a fact I could never wear this dress - definite SPP (sweat patch potential) but Gillan's no doubt too flawless to worry about such things. The footwear here is also fabulous and of course having Matt Smith there definitely helps. (My friends say I'm obsessed; I prefer the term eagerly interested.)
3. Elle of an outfit.
An older outfit but still just as good. The loose-fitting but tailored shorts elongate Gillan's legs (not that they need it) and the blouse is finished off perfectly with the pretty little bow around her neck. Bonus points for the shiny shoes.
4. Going grey.
Admittedly not much of an outfit but I love the simplicity of everything here. The oversized jumper will is still on trend (and always will be if I ever have anything to say about it). The picture screams at us to embrace messy hair (but only if it looks effortlessly chic too, of course.) The matching of the lips and nails is simple and subtle but never under-estimate the little things in life.
5. The perfect plait.
The final killer Karen outfit was seen two years ago but it's still one of my firm favourites. As an avid hair plaitee, this was always going to tickle my fancy and again is very 2012. I'm not wholly keen on the colour of the shirt-dress but the floaty feel and the conservative collar easily outweigh that.
So as Gillan gets the Scottish fashion gold, she gets a standing ovation from me too.
